Sensex, Nifty Open Flat; Tata Steel Surges On Robust Earnings

Benchmark indices opened the day flat, after seeing weakness in the previous session, on account of the current impasse over government formation in Karnataka. The Sensex was last seen trading higher by 114 points, while the Nifty was higher by 28 points. Tata Steel was in the limelight ahead of a goood set of numbers.

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy will be flying to Delhi on Monday to meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. "I will discuss with them (Rahul and Sonia) on the cabinet expansion. So far, I'm not sure about the Congress stand. We want to make sure the government is a stable one," Kumaraswamy said previously.

Jammu: Pakistan violates ceasefire in Samba

The Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night. Firing from the Pakistani side started around 10.30 pm at Narayanpur in the Ramgarh sector. The BSF troops guarding the border retaliated effectively. It was followed by mortar firing. There was no report of any casualty.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday paid tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 27th death anniversary. They laid flowers and wreaths at the Rajiv Gandhi memorial, 'Vir Bhumi' in New Delhi.
