The Union Government has announced several key measures for the automotive sector in the Budget 2026. Among them is the exemption of customs duty on capital goods used for manufacturing lithium-ion battery cells, a move aimed at reducing import dependence and strengthening India's EV ecosystem.

Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer Ather Energy has revised the battery packs on the Rizta and 450 electric scooter series, cutting cell capacity across most variants. The Rizta now gets a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry option alongside its existing Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) cells, a first for the model. Despite the smaller packs, claimed range figures stay unchanged or improve, and prices are untouched.
